Googoosh at Volksbühne, Berlin
On 2 November, the film Googoosh ‒ Made of Fire will be screened for the first time at the Volksbühne in its German version, followed by a conversation with director Niloufar Taghizadeh, actor Iris Berben, Googoosh’s German dubbing voice and Amina Aziz (journalist and editor in chief of Missy Magazine). DJ Noushin del Rave provides the soundtrack during the aftershow party at Volksbühne’s Parkettcafe.
The singer and actress Googoosh has been an iconic pioneer of Iranian pop culture for over 50 years. Her father, an acrobat and artist, already put her on stage at the age of two and she quickly became a star building an international career with hits in Persian, English and French language and performances worldwide. Googoosh’s career came to an abrupt halt under the regime of Islamic revolutionists when she was put under house arrest and banned from performing. After 21 years of living isolated under arrest, she succeeded in leaving Iran to make an astonishing international comeback in 2000. Her eventful life has made her an important voice of the Iranian resistance and a symbol of hope.
