Faith in Food – Hinduism in India

“Faith in Food” investigates the relationship between food and religion. Our travels take us to India, Iran, Europe, the USA, and Japan. This series of five episodes examines the traditions, commands, and prohibitions that have shaped kitchens around the world and reveals where the nutritional laws originated from, but also which historical and health knowledge has lead religious teachers to their prescriptions.

This episode deals with Hinduism in India. The Indian cuisine follows far more rules than just sparing the sacred cow – and yet it appears again and again in the stories of the Hindu-influenced food culture in which no one is supposed to starve.
