Faith in Food – Islam in Iran
“Faith in Food” investigates the relationship between food and religion. Our travels take us to India, Iran, Europe, the USA, and Japan. This series of five episodes examines the traditions, commands, and prohibitions that have shaped kitchens around the world and reveals where the nutritional laws originated from, but also which historical and health knowledge has lead religious teachers to their prescriptions.
This episode of the series focuses on Islam in Iran. The strict rules of Ramadam are only the beginning of a culinary journey through Iran, where the rich and diverse foods overcome society’s prejudices despite their kargen nature.
